What grade do I need on my final?
To find the grade you need on your final exam, use the formula: needed = (desired overall grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. This calculator does that math instantly so you know exactly what score to aim for.
How is my final exam weighted?
Final exam weight is the percentage of your total course grade the final counts for. For example, if the final is worth 20%, it contributes 0.20 × your final score to your overall grade, while the remaining 80% comes from your current grade going into the exam.
What if I can't get the score I need?
If the required score exceeds 100%, the target overall grade is mathematically out of reach — even a perfect final won't get you there. In that case, consider talking to your professor about extra credit, an incomplete, or adjusting your grade goal to something achievable.
